Special Event Liability Insurance

The term “Special Event” refers to any event, such as a wedding, anniversary party, fair, carnival, exhibition, fundraising dinner, a piano recital or corporate event usually lasting one to ten days. Unfortunately, things can happen that are beyond your control such as accidents, illness, or extreme weather. Special Event insurance can help protect your or your company from financial loss.

You, the special event “holder”, will most likely be required to provide proof of liability insurance to the facility where you have decided to hold your special event. You may also be required to add the facility to your liability insurance policy as an additional insured before you will be allowed to hold your special event. Let us help you choose the event insurance coverage that’s right for you.

Special Event Liability Insurance Coverages

Here are the most popular coverages:

  • Event Cancellation — may help cover your deposits, cake, flowers, rental cars, rescheduling the venue and caterers, etc. if you have to cancel or delay your event because of certain unforeseen circumstances. Make sure to check your policy to find out exactly what situations may or may not be covered.
  • Special Coverage — covers your wedding rings, dress, tuxedos, gifts, photographs, etc.
  • Event Liability Insurance — standard protection for damages to the venue or injuries to your guests. This is the coverage that most venues often require. Some policies also insure incidents caused by your guests.

Eligible events are usually private, such as:

  • Weddings
  • Anniversary parties
  • Baby showers
  • Birthday parties
  • Religious celebrations

Public events, such as dance recitals, sporting events and exhibitions, are typically not covered under this policy, and neither are bachelor/bachelorette parties. Some business events, such as a fundraiser or private corporate party, may be eligible. Feel free to ask your agent whether your specific event is covered or not.
